I write this email to convey my utmost gratitude to CFA for sponsoring my attendance on the Sankofa Journey. The experience was transformative and it gave me the opportunity to deepen my awareness in ways that will affect me both personally and professionally for the rest of my life. The journey provided me with several gifts: the gift of being confronted with modern day injustices that require my attention and voice; the gift of witnessing the strength, resilience, beauty of my people in a way that I had never known before; the gift of being a part of a community of journeyers who were brave enough to be vulnerable and sit in a place of discomfort and lament; the gift of mindfulness regarding the reality that it is impossible to do community development work without being ever mindful about how each action/decision either contributes to or prohibits the freedom and access of another. The trip stripped away another layer of ignorance, heightened awareness, fueled passion, confronted my fears, challenged my weaknesses, and deepened my love for the Righteous One who sacrificed His life so that every “Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain,” (Isa. 40:4 NLT).
Had it not been for CFA’s offering a scholarship, I would not have been able to experience Sankofa at this junction of my life. Now I know that it was God ordained for me to have went at this time and I owe it to CFA’s willingness to support it’s partners in embarking on a journey to racial righteousness. It’s a journey that we all need to be on, no matter what line of work we do, and it’s a journey that is in no way separate from the “narrow path.”
Thank you again! Please feel free to use this letter in it’s entirety or in part to promote Sankofa to CFA’s partners OR to promote CFA as a leader in professional development and training for CACs.
